THE ORIGIN OF TINKHAM-SMART
In the late 70"s I stumbled upon the life of lamps and shades and soon realized how much ambiance and lighting play in the function of our everyday lives. In 1980 while paired with a good friend, we opened a shade workshop and small lamp showroom in Montreal where we dealt with a number of antique stores and decorators. In 1991 the calling of the long ignored desires of 'country girl' were finally requited and thus brought me to a more peaceful area.

TINKHAM-SMART CAN HELP
I like to think that I am in the service industry. Light is so important in our lives and those table lamps, chandeliers and wall sconces that surround us often need rewiring, refurbishing and new shades. Colour, shape, size, amount of light [i.e. translucent or opaque] is taken into consideration as the shade is being designed. I also offer a small collection of table lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers and wall sconces that are 'one-of-a-kind' for your decorating and lighting needs.

HANDS ON
The workshop is equipped so I can provide  a great deal of flexibility as far as colour and design and I strive to achieve the clients vision of a finished product. The lampshades are fashioned from scratch allowing great scope in size, shape, material, and overall design.  I can also provide interesting designs while using brass and silver leaf which may be etched with a design inspired by the lamp base.

THE NAME
My grandmother Elizabeth Tinkham was a delightful fairy-like light in my life. As an artist and musician she loved the way light and colour played around with our sense of well-being. My work within Tinkham-Smart has become an extension of this glowing lady's life.

There are so many objects that may be transformed into some form of table lamp.  Items may be drilled and/or mounted on a base in order to create the electrical components required to make a lamp.
